Meilus currently serves as the director of the community service agency of the Metro Washington Council AFL-CIO, the only labor-sponsored social services agency for the metro Washington area. Her office gives up to $500 in a one-time payment to support Federal Workers via their Federal Worker Solidarity Fund. This support comes solely from donations made by reaching out to their connections for fundraising. Currently, she doesn't know how long the emergency fund will last, but she seeks to help as many workers as possible with the current funds available. She also asks for volunteers for those who are unable to donate.

Dave Tarasevich, Visitor Center Lead for the Appalachian Trail Conservancy. The Appalachian Trail Conservancy serves not only as a gift shop near the halfway point of the Appalachian Trail but also as a sanctuary for through-hikers, providing information and overnight accommodations. While most volunteer groups, such as the Potomac Appalachian Trail Club, are barred from entry into the parks during the shutdown, the "ATC" is allowed to continue operating due to being a privately funded entity. During this time, Dave's greatest concern is that people will not adhere to the overarching rule of "leave no trace" in the parks. He believes, though, that it is up to us to trust in visitors to respect the areas they visit.

Brady Campbell, one of the park rangers at Harpers Ferry National Park. Campbell explains how the park is allowed to remain open due to the emergency bailout fund for National Parks in West Virginia, which covers around two weeks of salary. Campbell is pleased that everyone is allowed to enjoy the foliage for free and happily answers every question for visitors during this time; however, he worries that he may not be able to share his enthusiasm for the upcoming events. Being a self-proclaimed history buff and someone who was "blessed" to be stationed in a historic area like Harpers Ferry, worries that he will miss out on working events like John Brown Day.
